One Funny Thing A Day...

So I have been busy doing my day job, to pay the light bill, and haven't posted here in a long time. I have missed the bus...my yellow school bus.

I have been taking in a lot of inspiration lately and felt like it was time to get back on the bus and get posting. I have also tried to giddy up on the twitter bus and have started sharing my useless view on the world out into the twittersphere. Whatever the hell that place is...can you imagine dropping in from Mars and trying to find the corner of twittersphere and the super highway?

Anyways, one of the many cool new things I'm enjoying is the web site www.onecoolthingaday.com. I am not a youtube regular that can afford to watch hours of mindless stupid human tricks on youtube (ok that cracks me up just writing it, cause it makes me seem super busy but I somehow recently fit in a marathon of Tough Love New Orleans followed by 2 hrs. of American's Next Top Model, when I already new who the winner was from 3 seasons ago)...but suffice it to say, I don't consume hours of weird internet stuff.

I was working on a project where I had to be creative "on demand"...and was reminded of this cool thing I learned at a seminar years ago. Some high-speed ad exec guy was leading the session and told us the secret to being creative is to "look at more things, longer." Seriously, that was the secret sauce to the ad campaign for Secret's chick deodorant? Turns out the dude was right, I really dig filling my brain by looking at more stuff and studying it longer and then asking "what if?" My Mom was the queen of this and I learned it well when we would roll into the hardware store and she would say, "What if we took that shower curtain and turned it into a wedding table linen!" Of course, I'm sure that was just the practical application the dudes at Bathfitters had in mind for that thing. She was way ahead of the ad guy on this front.

So I challenged myself to start looking at more things...longer. That's how I came across onecoolthingaday.com. The site features little, easily consumable things (audio, video, pics, stories, etc.) that are interesting and thought provoking. I watched this video that made me feel super insignificant called the Blue Dot narrated by some space guy, I was moved to tears by this audio of two old people talking about their love for each other after all these years, I was inspired by some weird chalk video...so I have made a habit of popping on each morning and checking out One Cool Thing A Day.

I got to thinking...scary proposition I know. I have always say I seem to find the funny in every day. There is always one thing in my day that makes me laugh, usually at someone else's expense. It could be anything, a second grader bounding off the bus in front of me with such exuberance because he's psyched to be done with a tough day at work, someone who accidentally hits reply all to a sensative email, a funny response from the road worker guys when I wave at them, some chick putting on mascara going 75mph, some guy with his pant leg stuck to his dress sock, finding a library book that I owe $14,532 on...not grand funnies but still things that I chuckle at and think life has lots of funnies, everyday.

Oh by the way, how funny is that dang Betty White chick? I so need to party with that bitch! Her new "Off Their Rocker" show cracks me up. A bunch of old foggies making fools out of the rest of us, getting hard laughs, at our expense. You go, Seniors!

My Dad used to say "you learn something new everyday"...and he was right, I do. But I say, "you see/feel/hear/smell/experience something funny everday"...because you do if you just look at more things, longer.
